Bennett = solid

Bennett is 5'11. He doesn't help our wide receiver problem at all.

Quick quiz: WR (and former 1st rounder) Mike Williams is 6'5". WR Wes Welker is 5'9". Who's had a better career (and helped his team more) so far?

Obviously Welker. But this team doesn't need another vertically challenged receiver. We need a bigger receiver that can go across the middle and be a threat in the red zone. Moss and ARE aren't much help neat the goal line so we need another receiver that can catch some td's when Cooely is being double teamed. I'm not saying that Bennett wont be a good NFL receiver, but he isn't a good fit for our offense.

The Redskins must not be as impressed with Anthony Mix and Billy McMullen as we would have hoped. One would think those twin towers would be good red zone options.

I think that all of the Mix talk has been blown out of proportion. We had major problems at receiver last season and Mix couldn't even get on the field in the red zone. He wasn't productive in college and has 3 NFL receptions. I'm sure they're hopeful that he can step up and contribute, but I highly doubt that they are counting on it.

Agreed, I think they will be pleased if he simply continues to be a special teams standout like he was toward the end of the season

Wes Welker is also a slot receiver, which we don't need. In addition to that, let's pull the BEST slot receiver of '07 Moon out to make a comparison with......

OK, drop Welker and add in his place 5'9" Steve Smith (Carolina's Steve Smith, not NY's). Torry Holt, Donald Driver, Hines Ward, and Reggie Wayne are only 6'. Derrick Mason's had a pretty good career at only 5'10". Plenty of guys 6' or less have had great careers as WR in the NFL. Height is important, but being "big" doesn't mean jack in and of itself, and size is no reason to discount a WR. Rod Gardner is 6'2", Taylor Jacobs is 6'1", and Michael Westbrook is 6'3". How'd they pan out?

In his last mock before the draft Kiper has us passing on Merling and taking Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie in the first round.

Kiper's mock draft

Saw that. Funny how these guys change their mocks every few days or so.

I agree with what Zorn said about picking at #21. There will be 4 to 5 guys that will be attractive and it will be a tough decision. Redskins.com has an article about drafting a CB as well. I would not be surprised if they draft a CB in the first 3 rounds, although hopefully not with our 1st. Even though I've been lobbying for a receiver in the 1st, a CB may be the best player available when we pick, if you follow the 'draft the best player' scenario.

So! Laughing what is your point here? - if you do not think size is important to our receiver corps you are going against what most people think - that is fine but not very helpful Rolling Eyes I think most people that know anything agree - we need a big fast receiver more than we need another great receiver. Wink

What you fail to realize is this: We have short receivers and NOONE is saying that short receivers CANNOT excel. The majority is saying that in WE need a tall #2 to COMPLIMENT our already accepted short receiving corps. THAT should be plain enough.
