Don't be to quick to condemn Brennen in a California court. Without knowing the full facts of the case, it is not possible to make an informed decision. For those of you that believe that you go to court, get a fair trial and then go home. Don't come to California. There are more closed door deals than you can possibly imagine. Your guilt or innocence is sometimes irrelevant.

That isn't exclusive to California.
Plea Bargains often have the defendant taking a plea of guilty to a charge that is not even close to the actual offense. The reason is that charges carry minimum and maximum criminal and civil penalties. To meet all of the conditions of a plea bargain, prosecutors might drop a charge of rape to a charge of breaking and entering. Without the actual court transcript for any case, there is no way of knowing exactly what happened.

I can tell you from personal experience that sometimes even the court transcript is not exactly factual.

Correct. That is why I phrased it as "the actual court transcript."
I think we agree that the media version of what happened with Colt Brennan and the actual occurrence could be miles apart, and we have no way of knowing exactly what happened.

I liked the first three rounds a lot, I don't think it could have gone much better than that. I think the punter is much better than taking a mediocre player at another position, and Brennan has huge upside. The secondary guys sound like they at least have upside. Overall i give it a B+, but considering its the skins, i give it an A+

brad, what's your take on the linemen that we picked up, both the G and the DE?

I think they'll both be projects considering the OT is moving to OG and the DE needs to put on some weight. Rinehart sounds like he is quick for a tackle, but will need to be very quick to play OG in the NFL. He'll also need to play with better leverage at guard. He has the size and athleticism to do it though apparently. It helps he can play both though considering the mayhem that goes on with our o-line every year.

I agree with that last statement, especially since we went into last season thinking that Wade would make a successful crossover. Any chance that Rinehart's height will be detrimental to his natural ability at the Guard position? I'm reminded of Wade who primarily had a problem learning G technique due to his height.

Na I don't think so, Wade is an amazon. He 's like 6-8 or somethin.

This was one of my angles where I was saying not to condemn him. Personally, I know nothing of his situation. I just despise the "holier than though" attitude like noone's ever made the wrong choice. I guess that's another "character issue."

i wouldn't be upset with that if it was for less than a first round pick

I'm concerned about a lot of things.
1) No DL untill a 7th rnd comp.
2) 2nd WR in 2nd rnd
3) TE in 2nd rnd
4) Reach for Justin Tryon in 4th. Would have likely been there in the 6th.
5) Reach for Kareem Moore, would have probablt been there tomorrow.

I would have picked Josh Barret over Moore & Andre Woodson over Brennan.

Chris Horton sounds like a good prospect to me Smile

The 2nd WR in the 2nd made a lot of sense to me, because you know we needed at least 1 top quality WR, and since you can't expect Santana Moss to be healthy anymore, we probably needed 2. We got 2.

The TE is interesting...but if he really was the best value on their board, it makes the most sense.

I mean the only DE they could have picked who was due around there was Calais Campbell...and we didn't pick him. Even with his college d-line coach working for us...

Exactly. Several guys said yesterday Campbell was better suited for the 3-4 defense, not a 4-3.

Quote:

Picks: WR Devin Thomas, TE Fred Davis, WR Malcolm Kelly, OL Chad Rinehart, DB Justin Tryon, P Durant Brooks, DB Kareem Moore, QB Colt Brennan, DL Rob Jackson, DB Chris Horton
Positives: Thomas, Davis, Kelly, Brooks
Negative: Defensive end not addressed until the seventh round.
Bottom line:A. Ten overall picks with lots of potential from top to bottom. The two wideouts slipped a little and could all end up providing great value. Thomas and Kelly could develop into quality big targets, and an AFC scout told Yahoo! Sports in February that Davis was the best overall talent at tight end in this draft. The punter need was addressed with the best one the college game had to offer in Brooks. Brennan is an intriguing pick late in the sixth round. A lot of potential starters in this draft.

Maybe now if one of these prospects develop into a starting WR (not a slot like ARE) Moss will not get as much abuse and stay healthy. Or maybe he had a bad run of luck. Let's try to stay optimistic!

I agreed wth the the fact the Campbell was there and we did not take him because he does not fit our system. I am happy with the picks. I am sure one the two WRs will deveope into a very good WR, the TE, is our TE of now and the future after Cooley retires in 6 years or so. And lastly, There was no value after the 4th round to pick a tackle or LB. I am excited about our prospects and cant wait to see Kelly catch over DBs head and also Davis going Deed along with Cooley. It is going to be great!

Cooley turns 26 this July and you're already planning his retirement? Jesus, let's talk about what implications this can have THIS year, not next decade.
