1984 Redskins - Practice Squad Roster?

Postby dtm » Tue Jul 29, 2008 11:41 am

I'm trying to track down a player who might have been on the '84 practice squad - Brian Allen, WR out of U. of Idaho. Drafted by the USFL but I think he ended up in the CFL before landing with the Redskins?

Anyone ever heard of him? Have a practice squad roster or anything?

Thanks!

Are you sure you don't mean Anthony Allen?

Anthony Allen
Height: 5-11 Weight: 180 Age: 49
Born: 6/29/1959 Mccomb , MS
College: Washington
Experience: 5 Seasons
1989 San Diego Chargers 7 -- 2 19 9.5 11 0 -- -- -- -- -- -- --
1989 Washington Redskins 0 -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- --
1988 Washington Redskins 14 -- 5 48 9.6 18 1 -- -- -- -- -- -- --
1987 Washington Redskins 3 -- 13 337 25.9 88T 3 -- -- -- -- -- -- --
1986 Atlanta Falcons 5 -- 10 156 15.6 32 2 -- -- -- -- -- -- --
1985 Atlanta Falcons 16 -- 14 207 14.8 37T 2 -- -- -- -- -- -- --

I'm not familiar with a Brian Allen on the 1984 Redskins team or PS.

LOL!

And nope, not Anthony, definitely Brian. He was all-conference in the Big Sky his senior year, drafted in like the 15th round of the 1984 USFL draft, but I think ended up with Edmonton in the CFL for the start of the year. Then ended up with the skins, but I can't find any record of him so I'm thinking he might have been on the practice squad.

Thanks again!

Its not. The Brian Allen in this case was drafted in 1984 by the LA of the USFL. The one in that link got to Idaho in '85. I tried googling, but didn't have much luck after that. He's not on the 84 roster on any of the stat databases I use.

Nor any of the ones I use.
But this is the only Brian Allen the University Of Idaho alumni roster lists.
If this isn't him, I'm out of ideas.
Sorry I couldn't be more help.

I use http://www.jt-sw.com/football/pro/teams ... s/redskins

The page says that to be listed on the roster, a player must have played in at least one game. If your Allen was never activated, then he would not be on the list. So...

If the Washington Post has electronified their old issues, you might find him on a scan of the Post archives. Otherwise, you'd have to look at the tedious "Transactions" section for each day. He might have been signed to a training-camp contract, evaluated, and dropped. Like Neil Olkewicz, but in reverse. Signed, shocked Pardee with his hitting, played forever.

Brian Allen (along with 11 other players), was waived by the Washington Redskins on July 29th, 1985.

This was reported in the Washington Post published on July 30th, 1985 in an article written by Christine Brennan, a Washington Post staff writer. The title of the article is "Moseley Accepts the Challenge" (the article is mainly about kicker Mark Moseley).

Yep, found it in the Post's archives. That's all I needed, thanks!
