this nonsense of value for the pick is illogical. the opportunity to get value for cousins is slim.
1. your starter needs to get hurt (yayyyy, cheer for that..dummies)
2. this other rookie needs to get more reps than he normally would
3. he would have to have significant playing time somewhere between now and year 3 ( not past year 3)
4. he, um, has to play well (let's not forget that part of it)
all that has to happen, exactly for you to do something like trade him for what I dunno a second round pick 3 years from now.
he wasn't only value guy out there. there was a Nt who went to Pitt higher on other boards and is a need for wash. wash has a mediocre defensive line and that guy had the appropriate size, unlike their current Nt. big wr who went to Philly, too.
and are you serious ---- one foolish and idiotic comment here is "the cowboys did this 23 years ago, so there, that's the reason why it's ok Washington did it"
one time did something similar Twenty Years ago and that's your defnse??? the games changed a lot since then, redskins sheep.
draft grades:
eagles. A
giants. A -
cowboys B
redskins D-
and the divide between the rest of the division and the redskins gets wider.
enjoy your collection of 6 ft, nondescript wide receivers, patchwork offensive line, and collection of rookie quarterbacks (hey, maybe they'll use a 2 qb system, cousins does the passing and the other does the running, play action stuff) and roster of mediocre non descript running backs.

It is just a game, who really cares. I think your putting too much thought, stress, and time into something that wont make much a difference in your daily life. If anyone is a sheep it is you for a kids game having this much of a negative effect on you.

When somebody posts that the Redskins have a mediocre defensive line and that nose tackle is a need, I stop reading. Sadly, that nonsense was too late in the post to save me from reading the first three quarters of it.
I'm still puzzled why somebody who refers to the Redskins as "you" is posting on this site.
Anyway, for what it's worth, I give this draft an A++, in respect of the positions that were drafted. If you'd told me before the draft that we would draft OL, QB, RB, LB and DB, I'd have been delighted. And now I know that's what we DID draft, I AM delighted.
I'm in no position to grade the players themselves, all I can do is read the "experts". There are plenty of question marks over a number of picks, but there also appears to be plenty of potential. I could paint a picture of total failure at this point, or of potential greatness. But the fact is that I don't know, and neither will anybody for two or three years.
But one thing I do know is that we have POTENTIALLY solidified the quarterback position for a long time. We have two players of great potential but with absolutely no quarterback controversy, unless RGIII sucks until 2014.
Shanahan has drafted more o linemen in his time in DC than Vinny could ever imagine. They haven't all worked out, and I doubt that all three that were drafted this year will work out either. But if one of them does, I call that success.
We acquired a solid linebacker prospect, who will hopefully really help the short term depth, and MAY be a long term replacement for #59.
The rest may or may not work out, but I'm fairly optimistic that this draft will, in retrospect, turn out to be as successful as last year's appears to have been. |

With Helu's speed, Royster's consistency and Morris' power and potential as a blitz pick up specialist, is there any reason that Hightower makes this team if he signs here?

Well, while we got our franchise QB.....I am a little less enthusiastic about some of the other choices. Of course, I will fess up that I do not follow many college players, and am not the draft stat type that others on the board are.
We drafted offensive lineman....and will have to trust that our scouting and coaching staff made the correct calls there as some linemen taken were ranked lower than where we chose them. I had a 6 hour drive yesterday, and was listening to the draft on NFL radio. Pat Kirwan and Gil Brandt did love our pick for LeRibeus as they said he was a OL with a nasty attitude.....
I had a problem with dropping back several spots in the 4th, then taking Cousins. While I can see the point that we need a backup to develop....just do not concur that our talent level as a whole allowed Shanahan to take Cousins vice others that may have benefitted our team immediately....such as the NT taken by Pitt in the space we gave up, or the OT taken by Arizona in the 112 slot (higher rated on NFL.com than our 71st pick.). Only thing that came out good here is that Beck is gone. I agree with several of the comments that are made by Don Banks in below article WRT Cousins pick:

As to the RB....certainly will defer to Shanahan on this as he has a proven track history for spotting talent at that position. Also looks like he could stand to hit the weight room some more. Did like his attitude/demeanor, but can't really compare competition he played against with Helu (Neb) and Royster (Penn State). |
