Shame.
It's terrifically eccentric, and over the top, but the salute to the National Health Service was quality, and a testement to how proud people are of the health care available to all over here.
Not wanting to get political or anything... |

The opening ceremony was tape-dalyed in the US so it could be shown "prime-time". I loved it, except for the bit with the rap star and the party.
The early part reminded me of Blake's poem "Jerusalem"...the "dark satanic mills". Did I see Kenneth Branagh stalking the grounds in a suit and top-hat? Loved the tribute to the NHS, JK Rowling and Peter Pan with Voldemort being vanquished by Mary Poppins.
The James Bond / Queen Elizabeth piece was hilarious, crazy, and even touching. She visited the US when I was a kid, and went to a University of Maryland football game, a game that North Carolina was heavily favored to win. The Terps won "The Queen's Game", and the last time I went to the great original Ledo's Pizza, they had a picture of that game in the window. She was the beautiful young queen who had pitched in, with all of our parents, who win WW2.
Finally, who could avoid rolling on the floor while loving the music as Sir Simon Rattle led "Chariots of Fire" with assistance from Rowan Atkinson? |

Lol, it was different, that's for sure. Really good to hear that you could pick up on a lot of the references in there.
It was original, which is always a positive in my book.
Loved the way the flame came together at the end, that looks beautiful.
Let's hope we have a memorable games now, which I think we will. |

Ok, I know who Mary Poppins is, I know whoVoldemort and JK Rowling (because of being forced to watch those sleep inducing HP movies with my kids), but I have no idea who NHS is. Is that someone I should know? |

I wonder how much the DNC paid them to talk up their national health system?
Thanks for letting me know what it means. |

It's the National Health Service to be accurate, but you're close enough.
One day soon they'll have something like it in your country and all human beings can be treated as such by getting essential health care free of charge and worry regardless of class, race or religion.
That's if you can slice a couple of $billion off your defence budget to cover it, but then I'm sure you have enough aircraft carriers and nuclear missles to be getting on with for now so no worries there, eh....?
Opps, was that a can of worms I just knocked over!!!!
