The foot plants on artificial turf; the player is hit; the foot stays planted; the knee snaps, since something has to give.
That's typical of turf.
Give the groundskeepers whatever they need to keep the field in good shape. |
Kinda like when the foot plants into a hole on a poorly maintained field of grass?
I'm all for lush grass with deep roots, so long as it covers the whole field. |

Just keep loads of sod in a climate controlled warehouse and break it out the night before a game. I'm sure they have storage warehouses if even my company does.

OK - I'll weigh in
I think that FedEx field will have a MUCH BETTER surface for the next playoff game
NOTHING can change what was there - Dan Snyder will NOT let the field condition be an item of conversation for the next playoff game ..
EXCEPT ... maybe to point out how much better it is than it was last Sunday 
I really think we'll see a new surface when we next play there
AND
I'd be VERY SURPRISED if Dan or Mike let them make a change away from a grass field

| The blame I hear is due to more college games being played and concerts! I think that is a crock of crap. Snyder needs to find who did this field when the Cooke's owned the team. That Bermuda grass that once was planted was awesome, durable and had this field the envy of many teams. However they now have that new synthetic substance that is like grass and better than artificial turf. I think Snyder went with some low priced landscaping unit for cost savings. There is no credible reason as to why you have a billion dollar franchise and a ghetto field. Seriously...... |

Especially when the grass is relatively inexpensive (in comparison to their other expenses that is). |

When FEDEX FIELD was first built along the Micheal Westbrook days we had Bermuda grass, and tan and brown is okay, that can be painted if need be. There is a difference in grass and mud. Looking at the field that was MUD with Sand sprinkled on and painted. Besides we are an outdoor stadium team on the east coast we shouldn't be having expectations for green grass in November, December or January and it that is the case then get a roof built and get some grow lights going.........If it's that important that we need that synthetic grass that is supposed to be so good........ |

Whichever prevents injuries most effectively is the way to go. No question.
I personally think that leans to turf. I am old school in that I believe there is something sacred about playing on actual grass, but we need to protect the players and turf has come a VERY long way. My high school just but in a million dollar turf field and it is literally like playing on grass. |

I prefer grass. But, I'm sure that we can re-sod this field twice a year. Once during a stretch of road games, and once the week or so around the bye. I'm not an expert in agriculture, but I'm sure the players would rather play on re-sodded grass than a clay surface that looks more like Wimbledon.
Every year we have a stretch of games on the road, and we should be able to work it out so that we have a road game before or after the bye. That would allow the grounds crew 2-3 weeks to re-sod the field and let it take at least twice during the year. This is a billion dollar corporation and this is perhaps just as relevant to player safety than are things like Kickoff returns.
East coast teams with out door stadiums should have two mandatory periods for grounds maintenance. Maybe the league can have a specialist inspect the fields to determine the extent of re-sodding required during those time periods. |
