The rumor mill is running.....

Quote:

On Thursday's SportsCenter, ESPN's Adam Schefter mentioned DeAngelo Hall as a prime candidate for offseason release.
Schefter grouped Hall with Nnamdi Asomugha and James Harrison. "The Redskins are over the salary cap," Schefter explained. "... Hall is scheduled to make $8 million, that would come off the books for next season. He will be a candidate that the Redskins will look at to try to get back underneath the salary cap." Washington is currently about $4 million over the cap. Cutting Hall would get them under.

Cut Hall ( Pray ) but also try to bring him back under a new contract. He might want to stay in DC, and we could do much worse than keeping him as one of our starters. I think the main problem with him has always been the size of his contract.

This past year he did play pretty well for us down the stretch . . . just not All Pro well, which is what his salary would imply.

^^HAHAHA!!

If we do cut Hall I certainly hope we have some solid plans on replacing him via draft talent. That's a gamble either way.

Threatening to cut him may bring him down to a price that he's more fitting for.

With the $ saved, I'd like to see us pick up that KC lineman that's be discussed in the other thread.

Just a thought, I know the decision is more likely based upon the cap situation, but I can't help but wonder if it has anything to do with the performance of any returning injured players (who are/could do well in CB position).

Probably not, but would be interesting if so...

We're not I've got us at around $2M over...

However, our boy J. La Canfora has us at $2.9 under Shocked

I think somebody calculated Brown's voided contract wrong...

I was going to ask its we released Jamal Brown yet.

Of course I know about the$36M cap hit, but I thought we were a little below our $105.9M cap.

Citing a source close to the situation, the Washington Post considers it "highly likely" that the Redskins will release DeAngelo Hall.
ESPN's Adam Schefter first mentioned Hall as a release candidate Thursday, but the Redskins were expected to make a "take it or leave it" pay-cut offer. It appears they won't go that route, instead outright cutting the 10-year veteran. The Skins are currently $3 million over the cap, and releasing Hall would clear $8 million. Hall has been routinely torched in coverage in D.C.

Hall could able to get 4-6 mil per year if cut.

Would be better to hold off and try to restructure instead of cutting him at the beginning of free agency...that would increase our leverage of resigning him at a lower price. I think if they cut him at the start of free agency it is an indication that then hes gone for good and they never had him in their plans.

Honestly I think that's the case. When you look at the turnover Shanahan has overseen and the kind of players he has let go, Hall sticks out a bit as someone you'd expect would have been gone by now. I think we just weren't able to acquire the right talent to replace him, which is why he's managed to stay on the team this long. We're still anemic in our secondary, but we've also run out of time to simply make do with Hall.

It'll be interesting to see what we can do with the draft an free agency, but I suspect we are going to struggle with this unit next year.

I think Hall will be let go but I would not be surprised to see him get another shot here at a reduced salary

I do not agree that the secondary was anemic - not good but the pass defense faults IMO are not that difficult to address
we need Haslett to come up with ways to get pressure on the QB from his base defense
we need to get better play from the players we have up front AND in the secondary
we DO NEED to add some defensive players but overall the defensive scheme needs the biggest improvement - NOT the players per se

I do agree that we need a better secondary and that we need to add some players defensively ..

I just don't think that all of our pass defense issues are due to the players we had in the secondary

IMO a big part of the problem was the amount of time the QBs had to complete passes
No secondary can hold up if the QB is under no pressure to throw the ball

we're getting some players back from injury
we need to find a way to get better play from the players we have
if the issue of getting better play from the front 7 involves getting better players then so be it
likewise with the secondary - if we cannot get better coverage AND the front 7 are consistently pressuring the QB then we need better players

I'm just saying it's not all on the secondary and ESPECIALLY when the defense is NOT applying pressure like ours was ALL last season
